Who can Legally bet on Sports in Arizona?

For those of you who don’t know, each state may regulate sports betting how they deem fit. That means some states, like Wyoming, allow players as young as 18 to make sports bets. Other states have much tighter rules and regulations. Below are the most important aspects to consider when looking to sign up for sports betting in Arizona.

  • Legal Age: Any player must be 21 years old or older to make a valid sports bet in Arizona. This applies to players signing up online or anyone visiting a retail establishment.
  • Mobile Betting: Betting from your smartphone or tablet is completely legal in Arizona. Some sports betting sites in AZ only operate on your mobile device.
  • State Lines: To make a valid sports bet in Arizona, you must be within state lines. Mobile apps have geolocation software built in to ensure you are inside the state at the time of placing a wager. If you disable location services, you won’t be able to make any sports bet.
  • Registration: You can sign up for a sports betting service anywhere in Arizona. All you need to do is download a mobile app or visit the website to join a sportsbook. You can also become a member of certain sportsbooks if you visit the casino. Several casinos in Arizona have sports betting partnerships.
  • Retail Locations: There are at least 13 casinos in Arizona with retail sportsbooks inside. Plus, there are other locations not associated with tribal gaming. There are around 20 locations in Arizona where you can make a sports bet in person.

While the rules surrounding sports betting have changed a lot in Arizona over the past few years, it is unlikely any of the above will change in the foreseeable future. You will always need to be inside the state to place a bet, and you must be over the age of 21.

Online Sports Betting Markets AZ

There are 17 online sports betting sites you can enjoy in the state of Arizona, but none of them are the same. Each sportsbook will have a different range of sports for you to bet on. If you are only going to bet on iconic American sports, like baseball, football, and hockey, then you can choose any sportsbook without question. However, what if you enjoy eSports, handball, or surfing? Where should you go to bet on those sports? Below is a list of every sports betting site, plus all the sports they have on offer.

If you want more information on the various bonuses offered at the best Arizona sports betting sites, then check out the sections further down in this guide.

What can’t you bet on in Arizona?

It is also worth noting that you can’t make any online casino bets inside the state of Arizona at any of the sportsbooks we have listed above. If you were to play from New Jersey or Michigan, then you would have access to exciting casino games alongside sports bets. Not including online casinos, there are three prohibited wagers in the state of Arizona, as declared by the Arizona Department of Gaming.

  • High school sports events
  • Injuries or penalties
  • Prop bets for college sports
  • Political Events

In Arizona, you can bet on eSports and award ceremonies, two types of wagers that are often not allowed in other states, like Pennsylvania. However, there are no sportsbooks in the U.S. that allow bets on political events.

Types of bets at Arizona Online Sportsbooks

Now that you know what types of wagers they do not permit in Arizona, what can you bet on? The range of wagers available to us in Arizona is excellent. They allow for a wide range of bets, including parlays, moneylines, and many more.

  • Moneyline Bets
  • Teasers
  • Parlays
  • Over Unders
  • Live Betting
  • Proposition Bets
  • Same Game Parlays
  • Round Robin
  • Futures
  • Point Spreads

The bets you can make at any sportsbook in Arizona are like the wagers you can make in most states across America. If you are not sure how each bet differs from another, then we have a variety of betting guides for you. We recommend starting with something simple, such as the moneyline, before moving on to a parlay.

Tax Rates for Online Gambling in Arizona

One aspect you need to remember before you start online gambling is that you must report your winnings. When you file your income tax, there is a section for other sources of income, such as gambling. This is where you must declare how much you have won. Remember, you can also report your losses, which can be deducted.

Arizona uses a graduated income tax system where you pay more tax depending on your earnings. The amount you pay ranges from 2.59% up to 4.5% if you earn between $0 and $250,000. This tax rate only applies to people who are married but are filing separately or individuals without a partner. If you are the head of the household or are filing your taxes with your spouse, the same tax bands apply up to $500,000. This may sound confusing, but all you need to do is report any gambling winnings as a source of income when filing your taxes. The more you earn in the year, the more tax you will pay.

Arizona Online Sports Betting Revenue

Arizona is a popular state for online sports betting. Between May and January 2022, most months had between $500 and 600 million wagered on mobile sportsbooks. This does not include any amount wagered at retail locations and it does not include limited event wagering operators, such as dog or horse tracks. Below is a snippet of the most recent revenue reports from the Arizona Department of Gaming.

July 2022August 2022September 2022
Gross Retail Wagering 1.96M1.45M4.02M
Gross Mobile Betting288.2M359.2M533.3M
Total290.2M360.6M537.3M

As you can see, over the most recent months the amount wagered at a mobile sportsbook reduced drastically. In March, patrons were spending as much as $690 million in a month, compared to the $290M spent in July. This figure has been steadily increasing to levels we have previously seen, with the latest monthly spend of $537 million. For anyone who can't believe their eyes at the size of these figures, not all of this revenue comprises losses for the player. In September, sportsbooks paid out as much as $481.5 million to players in Arizona alone.

Payment Methods at AZ Sportsbooks

Sportsbooks not only offer a different range of events to bet on, but they also have different payment methods. This means it has never been easier to deposit and withdraw your funds from Arizona sports betting sites. Whether you have a credit card or want to use online banking, multiple online sportsbooks should support the payment method you require.

Below, we have useful tables outlining all the methods for deposits and withdrawals. Some of these methods involve making a cash deposit. That includes visiting a physical sportsbook and depositing to your online account, or making use of a special deposit service like PayNearMe. Each method varies in terms of timeframe and even the fee size; if there is any.

Deposits

You’d be surprised at how much each sportsbook can vary regarding payment methods. Some may say they take credit or debit cards, but they don’t support American Express or Discover. Below you can see exactly which sportsbook supports which payment method. That way you can choose the right sportsbook for you.

Seeing as there are 17 sportsbooks currently available in the state of Arizona, you should not compromise. Instead, look for the payment method that is most convenient for you. If you have cash lying around and would rather not go to the bank, then make sure you sign up for a sportsbook that allows a cash payment.

Withdrawals

A lot of what we discussed regarding deposits also applies to withdrawals. However, most sportsbooks have a smaller selection of withdrawal options than they do deposit methods. That is often down to security. Most sports betting sites will not allow you to withdraw via PayPal until you have deposited from a PayPal account. This is a security measure, as it stops anyone from gaining access to your account and running off with your funds.

Promotions and Bonuses at Arizona Betting Websites

Promotions are one of the most important aspects of joining a sports betting site. After all, if you join a sportsbook that does not offer any promotions, then you are missing out on potential free money. There are sports betting sites out there, like Unibet, which give you a free bet to enjoy every week.

If you are looking for a sportsbook that has a specific type of promotion, then check out our various lists below. Remember, sports betting sites change their promotions all the time. However, the sites we list below usually consistently offer similar promotions throughout the year.

Risk-Free Bets

Most sports betting sites have a risk-free bet as the welcome bonus. This means you can sign up for a sports betting site and place your first bet with no worries. If your first bet wins, then you don’t get any additional prizes beyond the winnings. However, if your first bet loses, the sportsbook will give you free bets equal to the amount you staked. Some sites will give you one free bet equal to your original wager, others will give you a series of free bets for you to enjoy.

Since the stake is free, it disappears whether or not you win the bet.

How to Get Started on Arizona Sportsbooks

Desert-Diamond-Sports-Signup.PNG

Thankfully, joining a sportsbook in Arizona is quick and easy. No matter what sportsbook you join, there is usually an exciting welcome bonus to help you get started. That is not the only promotion a sports betting site will have an offer. Most give you the chance to get some free bets, bet boosts, or even insurance if your bet was to fail. To help you get started, we have put together a little guide.

Step 1: Pick a Sportsbook

The first step is the most difficult, choosing one sports betting site. Given that there are 17 sports betting sites in Arizona, selecting just one will be very difficult. So, to help take the pressure off, we have tried to give you as much information about each sports betting site before you make the big decision. Remember, if you are not enjoying your time with a sportsbook, you do not have to remain loyal. There is enough competition for you to jump from one betting site to another if you feel inclined.

Step 2: Registration

Once you have selected your sports betting site, it is time to register. This is where you have to enter personal information, such as your name, email, and date of birth. You will also need to provide the last four digits of your social security number; a standard procedure across all the states. The reason for your social security number is to confirm your name, address, and age before you may make a bet.

In this step, some sportsbooks will ask you to enter a promo code. This is crucial for anyone looking to enjoy a welcome bonus. If you forget to put a code in while signing up, you may give up your chance to claim a bonus. Before you sign up, ensure you visit the promotions page and copy the welcome bonus code.

Step 3: Deposit

Now that you have signed up and verified your account, you can make a deposit. If you join a betting site with a welcome bonus, ensure you check what you need to deposit to qualify. Depositing too little may not activate the bonus. You can’t deposit too much but do not put in your account more than you can afford to lose. Some sportsbooks require you to wager whatever you deposit before it is eligible for withdrawal.

Step 4: Place a Bet

Now that money is in your betting account, you can browse for a wager and let the fun begin. We recommend setting some account limits now before you get carried away. Hopefully, you won’t need to use these features, but setting deposit limits can help you stay in control of your spending. Remember, if you are fortunate enough to win some bets to withdraw some of your winnings.

Responsible Gambling in Arizona

Before you start any form of gambling, you must understand the risk involved. Many of us will keep a hold of what we spend and limit the time wasted looking for the next bet. But some of us won’t. That is why the Arizona Department of Gaming has taken responsible gambling seriously. Not only can you make use of the tools on each sports betting site, but you can submit disputes directly to the ADG.

If you are no longer enjoying your time betting, you can reach out to the ADG Problem Gambling department by calling 1-800-NEXT-STEP. This is where you can take back control and talk to someone about getting gambling out of your life. Sports betting is a source of entertainment, not a source of income. When the fun stops, please stop betting.
