1. DraftKings

DraftKings-App.jpg

DraftKings is one of the most widely available sports betting services across the United States. Its popularity came from offering players excellent daily fantasy sports contests, but now, it is offering sports fans a lot more to enjoy. Players can experience the DraftKings Marketplace, where anyone can collect sports-related NFTs. If you have never experimented with cryptocurrencies, then DraftKings is one of the safest places to try it.

The DraftKings Sportsbook is a fantastic choice for all bettors as it has consistently excellent odds across multiple sports. We found, on average, the odds at DraftKings made wagers more profitable when compared to the competition. Some sports betting sites like FanDuel were only ten or $20 off when we created a six-leg parlay. However, other sports betting sites were offering the same parlay for as much as $150 less than DraftKings. If you are looking for the most rewarding sportsbook in Indiana, DraftKings is certainly the best.

2. FanDuel

FanDuel-App.jpg

FanDuel is the biggest rival to DraftKings, not just for sports betting, but for exciting daily fantasy sports contests. Both services competed to offer players the best fantasy sports experience in America. DraftKings often offer players larger prizes to win, but FanDuel is an excellent service for teaching new players how to play. This intense competition has expanded into sports betting, giving us another hard decision to make. Do you join the DraftKings Sportsbook, or do you try FanDuel?

Both services are excellent, and they share a lot of similarities. You will find a large range of sports to bet on no matter which service you join, with FanDuel offering 21 in the state of Indiana. FanDuel is the better sportsbook for promotions throughout the year, as you are more likely to get free bets and various other bonuses compared to DraftKings. FanDuel also has comparable odds, with DraftKings marginally coming out on top. Overall, there is a negligible difference between the two. That means you can join either sports betting site and enjoy a fantastic service.

3. BetMGM

BetMGM-App.jpg

If you live in states like New Jersey or Michigan, BetMGM is one of the best services because it offers a gigantic online casino. However, Indiana does not allow an online sportsbook to provide casino games, so we are solely looking at the sportsbook. BetMGM has 22 sports for fans to bet on and it has one of the best live betting services in Indiana. You can watch a game via a live stream or view the game with a fancy animated graphic. The graphic updates in real-time to show you the current play and various other important bits of information. You can also find insightful stats to help you make a winning live bet.

Usually, BetMGM is one of the best sports betting sites for promotions. Throughout the year, you will find NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB promos to enjoy. This can include free bets, risk-free bets, and boosts for your parlays. Unfortunately, when these sports enter the off-season, there is a much smaller range of bonuses to enjoy. These promos will only apply to large sporting events, such as tennis majors or big golfing events. BetMGM is a fantastic online sportsbook and an excellent option for live betting fans.

4. BetRivers

BetRivers-App.jpg

Just like BetMGM, BetRivers has a fantastic reputation for providing an outstanding online casino service. Luckily for residents of Indiana, the sportsbook is also excellent in several ways. For starters, BetRivers is consistent with offering players a superb selection of promotions throughout the year. They give all players the chance to get a profit boost for the NHL and claim a free bet on the NBA. They also offered various insurance bets, giving your stake back as a free bet if you get something wrong.

The BetRivers Indiana has 21 events for players to place wagers on. That includes famous sports like tennis, soccer, and football, plus obscure events like bowling and handball. BetRivers is another fantastic sports betting site for live betting as it also offers high-quality live streams. You will also find fancy graphics and detailed stats about the players, the teams, and even the venue. If you are looking for a sportsbook that provides a plethora of stats for sporting events, BetRivers is one of the best in Indiana.

5. Caesars

Caesars-App.jpg

If you are looking for a sportsbook with an extensive collection of sports to bet on, then Caesars is one of the best. There are 22 markets, including a wide range of motorsports. You can bet on Formula 1, IndyCar, and MotoGP, plus NASCAR and the Xfinity series. If you were a motorsports fan or someone looking for the widest range of events to bet on, then Caesars is an excellent option.

The live betting at Caesars is also fantastic, but it does not offer live streams. To make up for the lack of streams, they offer players access to excellent stats and details about the sporting event. You can find a timeline of major events in the game, the current results of the team, plus where they are in the standings. Caesars has also stepped up its promotions, offering players parlay boosts and profit boosts of 33% for soccer and college basketball. Caesars is also a standout for its reward system, allowing you to claim exciting prizes such as free hotel stays. Overall, the service at Caesars is brilliant and certainly not one to overlook.

6. Betway

Betway-App.jpg

If you are looking for a sportsbook that has expanded recently, Betway is now available in eight states. The service available in Indiana is another well-suited to sports fans, as there are 22 markets to bet on. Betway also has a great selection of leagues for multiple sports. Take soccer, for example. You can bet on over 60 different soccer leagues and tournaments from all over the world. You can bet on the Serbian Superliga, the Peruvian Primera, or the English FA Cup at Betway.

Betway is another fantastic sportsbook for live betting thanks to the variety of features. You can watch live streams on select events, plus they provide you with fantastic stats. You can see detailed graphics and charts reflecting the game so far, including information about players or the team overall. Plus, Betway has a fancy animated graphic to keep you up to date with the match in real time. The last aspect to consider is that Betway is usually another great sportsbook for promotions. They give players parlay boosts and free bets throughout the year across multiple different sports.

7. Unibet

Unibet-App.jpg

The Unibet Sportsbook is not as well-known as most of the sports betting sites on our list. However, it offers an incredible service to sports fans and anyone who wants to claim free bets every week. The promos at Unibet are consistent throughout the year, including an unlimited number of parlay boosts worth up to 50%. The boost applies to parlays with between three and 12 legs. You can claim this boost an unlimited number of times to increase the returns of your parlay. Other promotions include a 25% profit boost on the NBA, a 25% profit boost on NHL and NBA same game parlays, and a $10 free bet every week.

If the promos have not entirely won you over, perhaps the sportsbook will. There are 21 different markets available at Unibet, including various events like darts, cycling, and lacrosse. The live betting section is also very good, with a great selection of wagers and some insightful match statistics. Unibet does not seem to offer live streams, but they have fancy visuals to keep you entertained. Overall, Unibet is a brilliant sports betting service that seems to be under the radar in Indiana.

8. Barstool

Barstool-App.jpg

The Barstool Sportsbook is an excellent option for anyone who is a fan of Barstool’s content. The Barstool personalities provide bespoke wagers for the sportsbook. This includes parlays for the week’s action or a same game parlay on one sporting event. Either way, these bets offer inspiration and a competitive wager with boosted odds.

The sportsbook at Barstool is a little smaller than the sites we have mentioned above. There are only around 16 events to bet on, less than what you would expect from a sportsbook available in 14 states. The Barstool mobile app is very user-friendly and an excellent starting point for beginners. They have sliders on some sports, allowing you to adjust the size of a spread or total bet. However, the live betting options are not as extensive as the competition. It is lacking the visuals and stats you will find at the sites above. If this is your first sports betting experience, Barstool is a great sportsbook to dip your toe in the water of online sports betting.

9. PointsBet

PointsBet-App.jpg

PointsBet is a popular online sports betting platform thanks to its unique wager, PointsBetting. If you want to know more about PointsBetting, check out our PointsBet review. All you need to know is it’s a riskier type of wager where you can win or lose more than you expected. Besides PointsBetting, the sportsbook has 21 markets to bet on, including various motorsports and American classics.

The sportsbook has an excellent live betting service, equipped with live streams and the visuals we have mentioned earlier. Plus, it also has a variety of statistics, including timelines of all the main events so far. The sportsbook does not introduce many promos throughout the year; instead, you can earn free bets by accumulating rewards points. There are several tools at PointsBet to help make your life easier. One example is the Quick Parlay. This is where you can choose the various leagues or types of bets and quickly assemble a multi-sport parlay without flicking through each tab.

10. Hard Rock

Hard-Rock-App.jpg

A relatively new sports betting platform in Indiana is the Hard Rock Sportsbook. This sports betting platform has 17 markets to bet on, including volleyball, cycling, and darts. The design of the sports betting site is plain, making it easy to find the wagers you want to place. The downside of the sportsbook is that they show players all the promotions, even if you are not eligible.

Make sure you read the terms and conditions of the promotion before you try to claim it. Overall, this sports betting site has a lot of positives and a few negatives. It does not offer a better service than the best in Indiana, but it’s not a bad sportsbook for anyone looking to try something different.

11. Bally Bet

Bally-Bet-App.jpg

Bally Bet is quite similar to the Hard Rock Sportsbook, but it has fewer choices. There are only 12 sports available to bet on at Bally Bet, one of the lowest in Indiana. You can only access the sportsbook via a mobile app, which you can download on iOS or Android devices. If you are looking for a sports betting site in Indiana with significant promotions, Bally Bet is probably not for you. If you wanted to join a stripped-back sports betting platform, Bally Bet is not a terrible option.

12. SBK

SBK-App.jpg

The SBK Sportsbook is another mobile exclusive that you can get on iOS or Android devices. For Android, you can download the official APK file or find SBK on Google Play. If you are looking for an excellent bonus to help you get started, SBK is offering all new players $100 in free bets when they make a wager worth $20. The mobile app is user-friendly and one of the best-looking sportsbooks in Indiana.

What makes SBK special is the community. You can find and follow other bettors who recommend wagers you can bet with or bet against. The community aspect is a unique feature of SBK that you won’t find at other sports betting sites in Indiana. If that sounds appealing to you, SBK is certainly worth a go.

13. WynnBET - Closed

WynnBET-App.jpg

Residents of Indiana no longer have access to WynnBET. In August 2023, the service announced it was shutting down in eight states. The company explained the closure was due to commercial reasons. They explained that the cost of marketing and promotions was too much and had to scale back operations. We'll have to settle for 12 sportsbooks in the state since WynnBET is unlikely to change its decision.

14. MaximBet - Closed

MaximBet-App.jpg

On November 16, 2022, MaximBet closed down all sports betting operations. That means you can no longer gain access to the MaximBet Sportsbook no matter what state you live in. However, the service recently launched a new app, MaximBet Play. The app gives all players the chance to submit predictions for sporting events, with correct answers resulting in some exciting prizes.

15. TwinSpires – Closed

TwinSpires-App.jpg

TwinSpires is another sports betting platform that is no longer available to Indiana residents. It began taking sports bets in Indiana on April 20, 2021. However, the service closed its doors on May 16, 2022, meaning TwinSpires only lasted a year in The Hoosier State. You can still access the sportsbook in Arizona, otherwise, the service is unavailable across America.

16. theScore Bet

theScore-Bet-App.jpg

In September 2020, theScore Bet started taking wagers in Indiana. The service was acquired by Penn Interactive, which operates the Barstool Sportsbook. To avoid competition between the services, on July 1, 2022, theScore Bet switched its focus to Canada, withdrawing from all states in America. It is unlikely they will reverse this decision, which means there is one less option in the state.

17. Tipico – Coming soon

Tipico-App.jpg

The Tipico Sportsbook is coming to Indiana later this year. Plus, players who sign up now can get early access to the Tipico Sportsbook before its official release. The service is currently available in Iowa, Colorado, New Jersey, and Ohio, but there is no official release date for Indiana. We recommend signing up for the Tipico mailing list or checking back here later in the year.

18. Prophet Exchange – Coming soon

Prophet-Exchange-App.jpg

On the Prophet Exchange website, they have an announcement confirming a partnership with Caesars Entertainment to bring a new type of sports betting to Indiana. They do not confirm an exact date, but they promise a release in 2023. For those of you who don’t know, the Prophet Exchange is a peer-to-peer betting system where you make money from other players, not the sportsbook.

The History of Sports Betting in Indiana

Sports betting in America has a long and complex history, but for the sake of time, let’s just focus on recent events. They effectively outlawed sports betting in 1992 when the president signed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act into law. This stopped sports betting nationwide except in a select few places, such as Nevada. Who can Legally Bet on Sports in Indiana?

Every state in America has different rules for sports betting. Some states allow players as young as 18 to place wagers, others don’t allow bets from any player under the age of 21. Indiana has a few rules you should know about before you try to place your first sports bet.

  • Legal Age: To bet on sports in the state of Indiana, players must be 21 years of age or older. That applies to retail sports betting and signing up on a mobile device.
  • Mobile Betting: There are over a dozen mobile sportsbooks where players can sign up and place bets anywhere in the state of Indiana. These mobile apps support both iOS and Android devices.
  • State Lines: To place a valid sports bet in Indiana, you must be within state lines. Each sportsbook is required by the Indiana Gaming Commission to ensure all players are in the state at the time of placing a wager. Plus, they fit mobile apps with geolocation software to ensure you meet the criteria to place a sports bet.
  • Remote Registration: You can sign up for mobile sports betting anywhere in the state of Indiana. You do not need to go to a retail location and register in person, just download a mobile app and complete the registration process.
  • Retail Locations: There are several retail locations where you can make sports bets in person. These sportsbooks accept cash bets and withdrawals, allowing you to make bets without credit cards or bank accounts.

Online Sports Betting Markets IN

If you have read any of our sportsbook reviews, you would know that each state fluctuates with the sports they have on offer. Meaning BetMGM in one state could offer 25 markets to bet on and 19 in another. This also applies to the sportsbooks available in the same state. In the table below, you will find a list of all the sports betting sites and the markets they have on offer in Indiana. Some sports are seasonal, meaning they can appear or disappear from the sportsbook throughout the year.

What can’t you bet on in Indiana?

Every state has something that you can’t bet on. Whether it's eSports events or college-level sports, each state has different laws for patrons to contend with. The most common rule you will find is that sports betting sites won’t allow bets on TV events and award ceremonies, like the Oscars. Plus, no state in America allows residents to bet on the outcome of political events. Below is a list of what you can’t bet on in the state of Indiana.

  • Politics
  • Sporting events with minors (high school)
  • eSports

Indiana has relaxed rules surrounding sports betting when compared to most states. The only events you can’t bet on in the state include political events, high school sporting events, and any eSports competitions. The rule against political events applies nationwide, and they also enforce the high school restrictions in many other states. Recently, there was a lot of traction toward legalizing online casino games. However, on February 21, 2023, the online casino and poker bill failed to pass after concerns over the impact it could have on brick-and-mortar establishments. Residents of Indiana will have to wait until 2024 for the earliest possible chance of online casino gaming.

Types of Bets at Indiana Online Sportsbooks

Now that you know what is off the table in Indiana, let’s focus on what you can bet on. There are several types of wagers you can place at any IN sports betting site. They can include simple bets, like the moneyline, or more complex wagers, such as the same game parlay. Usually, the more complex a bet is, the more it will pay. Below are some examples of the wagers you can place at an Indiana sportsbook.

  • Spreads
  • Moneylines
  • Totals/Over Unders
  • Proposition Bets
  • Futures
  • Parlays
  • Teasers
  • Round Robins
  • Same Game Parlays
  • Live Betting

All sports betting sites are different in Indiana. Some sportsbooks will offer patrons boosted bets, where they increase the odds of a particular wager to give you a larger payout. Other sports betting sites will give all players the chance to earn free bets throughout the week. If you are still undecided, you can join more than one site to see firsthand how they compare. Just remember to set deposit limits on both of your accounts.

Tax Rate for Online Gambling in Indiana

If this is your first sports betting, you need to declare your winnings when filing your taxes. Your winnings count as income in the state of Indiana, so you need to enter your winnings for the year. The tax rate in most states varies depending on how much you earn. However, Indiana has a flat individual gross income tax rate of 3.23%. That means if you earn $10,000 from gambling throughout the year, you will pay the state $323 in tax.

These tax calculations do not include any federal tax or additional fees you will need to pay. Plus, the 3.23% tax rate applies to casino winnings and winnings from riverboats. Make sure you keep a tally of your winnings to help you submit an accurate account of your total earnings. Failing to do so could lead to hefty fines.

Indiana Online Sports Betting Revenue

Sports betting in Indiana has increased drastically over the last few months of 2022. September 2022 posted record revenue of $51.17 million, over double the $25.45 million earned the month before. Given how successful September was for Indiana, has that trend continued? In the table below, we have precise details about the revenue and total spent in December 2022.

December 2022Gross ReceiptsHandle
Retail$4.49M$33.5M
Online$39.0M$396.68M
Total$43.5M$430.2M

The table above inspects the gross receipts and total amount spent by patrons at sports betting platforms in Indiana. When you see the word handle, think of it as how much the sportsbook held before having to give any back as winnings to the players. The gross receipts are the profit made by the casino from taking wagers. For some clarity, the Indiana sports betting handle in 2022 was over $4.4bn, including retail and online bets.

There are several reasons sportsbooks will see an uptick in betting activity toward the end of the year. People are off work and the playoffs are approaching, causing an increase in betting activity. The important figures from the table above show that residents in Indiana spent $430 million on sports bets in December 2022. That is an eye-watering sum, no matter how much or little you contributed.

Payment Methods at IN Sportsbooks

For anyone who is looking to join a sports betting site in Indiana for the first time, there are many aspects you need to consider. One that many overlook is the payment methods available. Each sportsbook will have a different range of deposit methods plus ways to withdraw your winnings. You must check if a site supports the methods you want before you sign up. Otherwise, you could have lengthy waits between deposits or withdrawals.

There is nothing worse than completing a registration process at a sports betting site only to find out they don’t support your preferred payment method. Plus, there is also the possibility that you won’t be able to withdraw your funds easily if you don’t have the correct withdrawal method. That is why we have created the following two tables, showing you each Indiana sportsbook and the methods they support.

Deposits

It’s rare for two sports betting sites to offer the same range of deposit methods. That is because there is such a wide range of convenient ways for players to deposit funds into their account. If you are looking for cash payments, some sportsbooks in Indiana support deposits at retail locations while others use the PayNearMe service. As far as digital payments go, you can choose from online banking, eChecks, e-wallets, and many more. Finding a sports betting site that supports your preferred payment types will save you from waiting long periods or having to contact support agents.

The withdrawals at most Indiana sports betting sites have additional layers of security. This means that certain payment methods will only become active once you have made a qualifying deposit. If you wanted to withdraw to a PayPal account, you must first deposit from the same account you wish to withdraw to. This should help protect your funds from someone gaining access to your account and taking all of your winnings.

Promotions and Bonuses at Indiana Betting Websites

Whether you are looking for a sportsbook that offers promotions or if you are yet to make your mind up, the next few sections can be a massive help. In our experience, promos are a fantastic way to enjoy sports betting with much less risk. When you make a normal sports bet, you are putting your money on the line, hoping to make more. A promo can help reduce that risk by giving you a free bet or some form of insurance to help you get your stake back. These promos are a massive help and some sportsbooks give them out regularly. Below, we have listed all the promotions to look out for, plus the best sports betting sites for each promo.

  • Free Bet: The free bet is separate from your cash funds as they allow you to place wagers without using any actual cash. If you win a free bet, you get to keep all the winnings and can withdraw them if you like.
  • Risk-Free Bet: You will usually find a risk-free bet as a welcome bonus at most sportsbooks in Indiana. It only activates if your bet loses, which will cause you to receive a free bet equal to the amount you staked. The sports betting site can give you one free bet, or they can split your stake into a series of smaller free bets. Either way, it’s an opportunity to make more wagers without losing more cash.
  • Odds Boost: A sportsbook can decide to increase the odds of certain wagers. This can include parlays, same game parlays, or individual bets, such as a moneyline. The sports betting site can also apply boosts to your creations.
  • Parlay Insurance: Some sports betting sites offer you parlay insurance. If your parlay fails by just one leg, they will give your stake back as a free bet.
  • Deposit Match: This is most commonly found in casinos, but some sportsbooks match how much you deposit either in free bets or in actual cash.
  • Profit Boost: This typically applies to parlays where the more legs you choose, the more the sportsbook will increase your winnings if the bet is a winner. It can also apply to any sport or wager as it simply increases your returns.

Free Bets

As we mentioned above, the free bet is a brilliant bonus, as you can place a wager on any sporting event for free. The only downside to this wager is you don’t get to keep the stake. However, you get to keep all the winnings and you can decide to continue betting or withdraw your funds.

Several sportsbooks in Indiana give out free bets regularly. Some betting sites, like PointsBet, only give out free bets to players who collect enough reward points. Meaning you will need to keep betting over a long period to claim a free bet. In the list below, we have the best Indiana sportsbooks for free bets that do not require a loyalty program.

Best Free Bet Sites

Unfortunately, promos can change throughout the year. Meaning a sportsbook that is giving out free bets now might not have any later. Make sure you check each of the sites we list below before you sign up, to ensure they have free bets for you to claim.

  • BetRivers: If you make three same game parlays on the NBA in one week, they will reward you with a $10 NBA free bet.
  • Caesars: Bet $50 on the winner of the next Super Bowl for a $25 free bet.
  • Unibet: Recieve a $10 free bet when you place five or more live bets during the week. This promo refreshes every week!

Risk-Free Bets

The risk-free bet is a common type of welcome bonus where players can get insurance on their first wager up to a certain amount. That means if you win your first bet, the insurance will not activate and there is nothing more for you to gain besides the winnings. If your bet loses, then you will receive your stake back as a free bet, giving you a second chance at turning a profit.

Best Risk-Free Bets Sites

  • Caesars: New players get a risk-free bet worth up to $1,250 plus 1,000 tier and reward credits free.
  • FanDuel: Get up to $1,000 back in free bets if your first bet loses.
  • BetMGM: Enjoy a $1,000 risk-free bet if the first bet you make loses.

Odds Boost

The odds boost is another common promotion for sportsbooks in Indiana. You will find several sportsbooks that give players a boost if they bet on certain events or if they add enough legs to a parlay. Remember, whatever promotion you are claiming from the sportsbook, read the terms and conditions. This is where you can find out exactly what you need to do to claim the bonus without wasting your time or money.

Best Odds Boost Sites

  • Unibet: Get a 25% live profit boost if you bet $25 on NBA games on a Thursday and Tuesday. You can also receive a 25% profit boost for any three-leg same game parlay on the NBA and NHL. Plus, players can claim up to a 50% parlay boost an unlimited number of times on parlays with more than three legs.
  • Caesars: Opt-in to claim 100% parlay boosts to use on any four-leg event with +400 or greater odds. Players can also enjoy a 33% parlay boost on college basketball events.
  • Betway: Get a soccer parlay boost worth up to 40% on all parlays this season. The more legs in your parlay, the bigger the boost.

How to Get Started on Indiana Sportsbooks

Unibet-Sign-Up.PNG

Now that you are ready to sign up for a sportsbook, there are a few steps you need to complete before you can make your first bet. One of the most important parts that new players overlook is the welcome bonus. We have detailed some bonuses above, but there is another aspect we have not mentioned. Some sports betting sites allow you to enter a promo code while signing up. If you have a welcome bonus or a referral code from your friend, you must enter it here. Most sports betting sites do not require a code for your bonus, but you must check before registering as you only have one chance.

Step 1

The first step is to download a sportsbook from your mobile device. If you are registering on your computer, you will need to download software to verify your location. Once you have downloaded the relevant app or software, you can click the join button. Here you enter a valid email address, choose a password, plus provide personal information such as your date of birth. It is also at this step that the sportsbook will ask for the last 4 digits of your social security number. This is standard practice for sports betting platforms in Indiana.

Step 2

You may see the optional promo box. This is where you must paste the welcome offer code or a friend’s referral code to claim the bonus. Very few sportsbooks allow you to enter the code after you have signed up. Making it crucial you get everything right the first time around. Once you have entered all your information and a promo code, you can finish the registration process.

Step 3

The last part before you can place a sports bet is to confirm your identity. The sportsbook will send you a welcome email or a code to your mobile phone to verify your account. You cannot deposit until you have completed this step. Once they verify you, double-check the welcome bonus one more time. This is where you can find out crucial details that may cause you to miss out on the bonus. Some welcome offers require you to deposit a certain amount, others have tight restrictions on the wagers you can place. It’s always best to check before you move on.

Step 4

Make your first deposit and first bet. Most Indiana sports betting sites have a welcome offer that only affects your first bet. Once that is out of the way, you are free to deposit and bet as much or as little as you would like. It is at this point you should check the responsible gambling tools, especially if this is your first time betting.

Responsible Gambling Indiana

Indiana is another state that advocates for responsible gambling. There are many organizations and charities in Indiana set up to help players manage their gambling problems. To help new players avoid losing more money than they can afford to lose, every sports betting site has fantastic tools to help control how much you spend. You can set limits on your deposits, screen time reminders, and various other features to save you some money.

If this is your first time gambling, it's easy to get carried away. We recommend only betting on sports that you follow and setting strict limits on how much you can spend. We also recommend keeping track of your deposits, plus your losses and any winnings. Then, after a few weeks or months, look and see how much you have spent. If you are losing a lot of money, there is no harm in stopping and seeking help to quit. The only harm you can do is to continue losing more money than you can afford.
